Beautiful, but ...

I first would like to say that I do not disrespect the artist/author of the book, I think her artwork is great and I even preordered the book as soon as it was listed.
This book is gorgeous and practical. Her one style of faux calligraphy is very pretty and the examples are very clear.
BUT, there is only one style of "cursive" hand lettering demonstrated and three block letter or print examples. BUT, the blank pages.... About 45% of the book is blank pages, not to mention all the white space. It makes for a very clean look on a book but it feels like they could have printed a booklet and told you to buy a realm of paper for practice instead. Even with the printed guidelines for practice the amount of blank pages is excessive. Pages 96-110 are ENTIRELY BLANK but for the page number, and so is almost half of the book.
It is introductory so it is strictly for beginners.
The cover is very hard and the wire bound feature is very nice for practicing. If you use the pages for writing you don't need an extra notebook.

Lacking Actual Teaching & Helpful Content

I love the author's work and hate to write a poor review but this book is a poor teacher of lettering. There are MANY practice pages but little instruction. Really it's just a book of faux calligraphy practice pages with arrows showing the direction of the letters and telling you to pick up your pen between letters. This information can be widely accessed by free lettering sources. In purchasing a $30.00 book I expect more inside information, tips and tricks and showing me HOW she achieves her style of lettering, etc... For example, the flourishes pages literally just tells you that flourishes and illustrations are great to add to your lettering then shows you a 2" x 2" example of the author's own "Bless Your Heart" design (with zero instructions on how she achieved it) and has about a 6"x3" area next to that design that says "Practice Here." So essentially you can just google "chalk full of love bless your heart" and see the image of that design and practice it yourself and you've received the same amount of info on flourishing as she gives in the book. Unfortunately this book is a well marketed and branded exterior of book with little helpful content within.

This book is beautiful! I agree with some ot the previous posts that there ARE a lot of empty pages but I like that because I never seem to have a book and paper in the same place. And, there is an additional pdf packet available with extra things like combining letters that is super useful as well. It is really good for beginners.

Reminds me of reading Conan as a kid, but better!

Conan the Barbarian as a comedy? Well, it works. The witty dialog will take keep you smirking as you follow this tale of Vengar the Barbarian (the second with hopefully many more to come), in search of his oversized sword, leading up to an ending that wasn't quite what I expected. Certainly I will never think about goat's milk in the same way again.

Thanks to Ted Boone for the correction, I really need to go back and read the first Vengar story!

Lots of fun in a quick read

Like the first Vengar story, this was a quick, fun read that brightened up a boring afternoon. It doesn't take itself seriously and plays around with the cliches of the genre while still delivering an enjoyable swords and sorcery story. I look forward to further installments in Vengar's adventures!

"Morning came upon the steppe like a drunken sailor: clumsy, premature and with nonetheless great satisfaction." When you start right off the bat with some of the silliest, deep purple prose you've ever read, you know what you're in for. It's like reading a lost Mel Brooks treatment written by Leslie Neilsen.

Vengar's been looking for his mighty sword, Ridikulon... which he somehow misplaced during a night of revelry, and takes on the services of Shakal the Thief to help him reclaim it. A walking column of an evil warlord, Columnar, controls the Glum Horde, and needs the sword to revive the legendary Sunder Man and take over Sunderia. Why anyone would want to I've no idea, given the quality of life there. I mean, c'mon- the people live in buildings looking like the illegitimate child of a tent and a hut (hent? tut?) and the goat's milk they drink is best not mentioned again. Regardless, it can all only lead to an epically epic struggle of epic proportions.

If you're a fan of fantasy, witty satire or ever wondered what Eye of Argon could've been with some coherence, this is one for you.

Midnight Marriage by Lucinda Brant, a book review

Midnight Marriage by Lucinda Brant is a Georgian romance inspired by true historical events. In Midnight Marriage, a young girl of only twelve and a rebellious youth are wed in a ceremony conducted in the dark of night. Then the youth is whisked away by his father, and the young girl returned to her bed. She does not clearly remember the incident as she was drugged. Years later, as an adult, she meets him again but does not realize she is wed to him. He wishes to win her heart without her knowing of his noble title, and on his own merits. They wed again as adults. The rub comes when she learns his real identity and realizes that she has been deceived.

There is plenty of subterfuge in this tale, with several subplots skillfully woven throughout. This well-written historical romance clearly illustrates the author's talent for story-telling. It is engaging, authentic, and comfortably paced. The dialogue is believable and stays true to its period. The settings, outfits, and behavior of the characters are portrayed in delicious detail.

This is a book I would highly recommend to any readers who like a sweet historical romance rife with intrigue and complicated by societal expectations of the time.

One Georgian Historical Romance you have to read!

"Well if you like "Noble Satyr" book one of the Roxton series, you are going to love "Midnight Marriage" by Lucinda Brant. I seriously have devoured Lucinda as an author as her writing flows so well for a book of this era. Lucinda captivates you from the beginning and you won't be able to put this down.

This wonderful Georgian Historical Romance involves a captivating young lady with striking red hair, Deborah. She is a breath of fresh air and goes about her ways inwhich she shouldn't for a young lady unwed. Any gentlemen would indeed love to take her hand in marriage on her beauty alone. But she isn't interested in anyone for his noble status, she is waiting for mister right, a man that truely, deeply loves her and her alone.

Deborah continues to measure every man up to the man she dreams about in her sleep. Dreams of this perfect man that has invaded her nightdreams since she was 12. Does she find this man? Or Does she do the right thing and marry a man to uphold the families reputation.

I like that this book can be read as a stand alone book, but you will love it that much wanting to know more about the roxtons: "noble satyr is the 1st book of the series then "midnight marriage". And yay book three is in the making right now.

All i will say is that there is a midnight marriage.... sword fights and carriages pulled along coble stones with beautiful ladies dressed in gowns ready for a ball. Just as i thought Lucindas books couldnt get anybetter, this did. So sit down, relax with a
high tea and your best sunday dress on, loosing yourself in the world of the Roxton series. (Roxton is a Duke by the way). :)

The Rake Returns for his Bride

Impressive! Sequels aren't generally as powerful as the first book, but Lucinda Brant proves the exception.
This is a sequel to 'Noble Satyr'. Both books have a Heyeresque feel to them and as I said in the first books review, that is a good thing. The historical backdrop of Georgian England (Bath)/France (Paris) was still there (foreshadowings of the French Revolution and unrest), but the focus was on the H/H. The intrigue and plot turns were good- things are rarely what they seem. I like how the story begins with an inexplicable event and then unravels to explain it and the consequences of it. The characters were ones with which I could be sympathetic. It was nice to meet up with favorite characters from the first book and oh so bittersweet to see them as the older generation. -; But that is life.

Letting go

Such healing being finally found in Edythe's journey through her difficult life. Her Christian faith and walk alongside her devoted husband, Kenneth, is inspiring. Her life touches me personally yet her tenacious attitude shows determination and willingness to forgive despite loopholes in her memory. We can either choose to hold on or let go and Edythe choose to let go and let God take over.

Edythe Crow has written a truly remarkable book. What an accomplishment to have put your whole life on paper in such a moving way. This is a unique creation written in the author's strongly individual voice. Highly recommended reading for anyone carrying hurt from their childhood.

Architectural Acoustics presents a comprehensive technical overview of the field at a level suitable for working practitioners as well as advanced undergraduate or introductory graduate architecture or engineering course. The book is structured as a logical progression through acoustic interactions. Beginning with an architectural history, it reviews the fundamentals of acoustics, human perception and reaction to sound, acoustic noise measurements and noise metrics, and environmental noise. It then moves into wave acoustics, sound and solid surfaces, sound in enclosed spaces, sound transmission loss, sound transmission in buildings, vibration and vibration isolation, noise transmission in floor systems, noise in mechanical systems, and sound attenuation in ducts. Chapters on specific design problems follow including treatment of multifamily dwellings, office buildings, rooms for speech, sound reinforcement systems, rooms for music, multipurpose rooms, auditoriums, sanctuaries, and studios and listening rooms. While providing a thorough overview of acoustics, it also includes the theory of loudspeaker systems and sound system modeling as well as an in-depth presentation of computer modeling, ray tracing and auralization. It will be particularly beneficial for architects and engineers working in fields where speech intelligibility, music appreciation, and noise isolation are critical.

With engineering degrees from Princeton and UCLA, Dr. Marshall Long has been engaged, since 1971, in acoustical engineering consulting, as principal of the firm he founded. Excelent book on Acoustics

Having read some architectural acoustics books, I can recommend this one as one of the best. It is an excellent resource. In fact, I should not have spent some of my money on some oldie books, which were cheap but not as good.

This is an up to date book, and it is worth every penny you spend. If you are a student or someone interested in the topic architectural acoustics, it is a good resource but it has many formulas (sorry if you do not like physics).

With it I have been able to specify to an architect who does not know hardly anything about acoustics how to correct his design for a contemporary church. I also recommend "Handbook for Sound Engineers" as a compliment to this book, for people that are trying to get the best of both worlds -- acoustics and audio. These are both good buys, and can help you very much. Remember that to be a good consultant you need to have a good library of books and this one would be an excellent part of your reference library.

The purpose of this book is to introduce the reader to the basic concepts of traditional analog electronic communications systems and to expand the reader's knowledge of more modern digital, optical fiber, microwave, satellite, data, and cellular telephone communications systems. The book was written so that a reader with previous knowledge in basic electronic principles and an understanding of mathematics through the fundamental concepts of calculus will have little trouble understanding the topics presented. Within the text, there are numerous examples that emphasize the most important concepts. Questions and problems are included at the end of each chapter and answers to selected problems are provided at the end of the book.

This edition of Electronic Communications Systems: Fundamentals Through Advanced provides a modern, comprehensive coverage of the field of electronic communications. Although nothing has been omitted from the previous edition, there are several significant additions, such as three new chapters on telephone circuits and systems, two new chapters on cellular and PCS telephone systems, and three new chapters on the fundamental concepts of data communications and networking. In addition, numerous new figures have been added and many figures have been redrawn. The major topics included in this edition are as follows.

Chapter 1 introduces the reader to the basic concepts of electronic communications systems and includes a new section on power measurements using dB and dBm. This chapter defines modulation and demodulation and describes the electromagnetic frequency spectrum. Chapter 1 also defines bandwidth and information capacity and how they relate to one another, and provides a comprehensive description of noise sources and noise analysis.

Chapters 2 and 3 discuss signals, signal analysis, and signal generation using discrete and linear-integrated circuits. Chapter 3 gives a comprehensive coverage of phase-locked loops.

Chapters 4 through 8 describe analog communications systems, such as amplitude modulation (AM), frequency modulation (FM), phase modulation (PM), and single sideband (SSB). A comprehensive mathematical and theoretical description is given for each modulation technique and the basic components found in analog transmitters and receivers are described in detail.

Chapter 9 discusses the fundamental concepts of digital modulation, including comprehensive descriptions of amplitude-shift keying (ASK), frequency-shift keying (FSK), phase-shift keying (PSK), quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), and differential phase-shift keying (DPSK). Chapter 9 introduces the student to trellis code modulation and gives a comprehensive description of probability of error, bit error rate, and error performance.

Chapters 10 and 11 describe the basic concepts of digital transmission and multiplexing. Chapter 10 describes pulse code modulation, while Chapter 11 describes time-division multiplexing of PCM-encoded signals and explains the North American Digital Hierarchy and the North American FDM Hierarchy. Wavelength division multiplexing of light waves is also introduced in Chapter 11.

Chapters 12 through 15 describe the fundamental concepts of electromagnetic waves, electromagnetic wave propagation, metallic and optical fiber transmission lines, free-space wave propagation, and antennas.

Chapters 16 through 18 give a comprehensive description of telephone instruments, signals, and wireline systems used in the public telephone network. Chapters 19 and 20 describe the basic concepts of wireless telephone systems, including cellular and PCS.

Chapters 21 through 23 introduce the fundamental concepts of data communications circuits and describe basic networking fundamentals, such as topologies, error control, protocols, hardware, accessing techniques, and network architectures.

Chapters 24 through 26 describe the fundamental concepts of terrestrial and satellite microwave-radio communications. Chapter 24 describes analog terrestrial microwave systems; Chapters 25 and 26 describe digital satellite systems.

Appendix A describes the Smith Chart.

Lots of Little Problems make for one big flaw

Like other reviewers I have found many problems that indicate lack of a quality technical editor. There are several typos per chapter most heavily concentrated in the math sections (missing parenthesis, squares, improper powers, units and just bad math). This has been typical for other editons of this book. I would not suggest using this text in a learning enviroment due to the confusion caused by the numerous typos.

This book is the go to resource for those dealing with, curious about or treating patients with HPV. It is educational and provides holistic and medical approaches to treating and moving forward with HPV! The book incorporates real life scenarios which immediately allows for a feeling of peer to peer support.

I was an LPN in an OB/GYN office for 12 years and was involved with educating patients about HPV and the various procedures mentioned in the book. I wish this book had been available to me. I have learned a great deal from reading this book, and know I would have used all the information in this book to better educate our patients.
I hope this book is published and becomes available to students and patients, so they can be well informed about HPV.

Excellent reference for today's concerns!

An informative, easy to read, holistic offering designed for women of all ages. I like the clear explanation of research findings to discuss the "why?" and "how come?" I especially appreciate the "take charge" attitude of behavior change strategies. This book stresses over and over that we are partners in health care and we can be proactive in decreasing our personal risk of disease.
