I love this book

"Controls" is undoubtedly a very difficult subject for newcomers/beginners but Pao Chau knows well the roadblocks to learning and understanding and bypasses them by getting to the heart of the core, crucial matter without dismissing any vital points. This book is actually a lot easier reading than initially expected, and is presented in such a way as to lead to continual reinforcement of previous material while smoothly progressing to the next topic. It is not verbose and packs a wealth of information in lean, efficient chapters. If you are taking an introductory Process Controls class or simply need a review this is probably the best book out there for you!

Excellent Introductory Process Controls Book

This is an excellent book not only for new students to process control but also for the experienced practitioner in need of a handy basics reference book.

I am a controls engineer with 9 years of experience in designing advanced control and optimization strategies for the chemical industry. I have several excellent texts on chemical process control (Marlin, Luyben, Stephanopoulos, Camacho, Ogunnaike etc.) and I must say that this book is a welcome addition to my collection.

Prof Chau adopts an informal conversational style of writing that immediately puts one at ease. The practice problems are relevant and useful hints for their solution are provided in the book itself. I especially like the approach of using MATLAB to accomplish the drudgery of, for e.g., frequency response plots or state space solutions.

A great book for its price and one that should be on your shelf!

A excellent and readable text for professionals looking for a brief reference on Process Control, who also want to learn to use Matlab, one of the most powerful engineering tools available for Process Control.

Each chapter concludes with problem sets, to which hints or solutions are provided. Despite the reliance on Matlab, theory and analysis of Process Control are well presented.

I have been working for more than 16 years as an Instrumentation, Automation, and Process Safety and Control Engineer for the Oil & Gas Industry, and I found this book to be very useful to learn how to use Matlab to help me solve day to day issues on my job.

Newcomers and students will also find this book useful it their area of interest is Process Control.

Okay Content, Received in Great Condition

I needed this for a class and it came to me in new condition (yay!). The material within the book is pretty good. They teach the information and have plenty of examples that can usually help you through the problem sets. However, it helps to have a professor that walks through his/her own problems as well because there are no answer keys so it is difficult to tell if you are on the right path to figuring out the problems.

About the Author
Otto Kroeger is a bestselling author and expert in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator(r) (MBTI(r)) Assessment. He served as president of the Association of Psychological Type International and is a current member of the National Training Laboratory Institute of Applied Behavioral Sciences. Kroeger has coauthored four leading books on personality: "Type Talk", "Type Talk at Work", "16 Ways to Love Your Lover", and "Personality Type and Religious Leadership".

Thuesen is Managing Partner of Otto Kroeger Associates. She conducts seminars on interpreting typological skills. She has been a teacher and counselor and has served as Assistant Director of Organizational Development at the White House.

An absolute MUST READ! While personality is my hobby, this clearly laid out book will give you easy ways to recognize the style preferences of others and why your style makes you the way you are. I have much more acceptance of myself and less anger toward others by having the power of this information. When I test elements of it and find them to be true I can work with my new knowledge to lead me through conflict points with much more power and control. Thank you so much!

A Must Have

This book was recommended to me by someone who is trained in Personality Types. I took the questionnaire with this person so this book is the 'companion' to the work I've been doing. But, it is not necessary to use the book along with a professional!!

Type Talk is written very well, easy to understand, with a lot of examples. It's not written in a technical fashion, so any lay person can understand what is discussed.

As far as the information: packed full. This is a great book. I'm thinking of picking up a few copies for some people close to me. (I'd give them my copy when I'm done but I'm going to hang on to for future reference!) The authors don't expect the book to be the final, end-all problem solver. Rather, it's a tool to understand the way people tend to act, think and talk.

It's great for figuring out relationships at home, work or with friends and why we all react the way we do. I highly recommend it.

He has been the recipient of the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creativity, the National Freshman Advocate Award, and several other teaching honors. Very Good Book for the class

I had this book for a college marriage and family class online and, trust me, I have read it cover to cover. It is a very good book and carries a lot of information but for an online class it was a lot to read. On the other hand the information is useful for my sociology degree so I liked it. :)

I checked this out from my library as a Hoopla Audio-Book... unfortunately it was one 39 hour file. I called Blackstone, the publisher, and they were very helpful and provided the times of each of the segments. This Is The One

C. S. Lewis's essays have been published in various combinations for years now. What is absolutely terrific about this volume is that it packages 135 of Lewis's essays and other short writings. Some of those here are hard to find anywhere else such as Christian Reunion. If you are interested in C.S. Lewis's essays -- and functioning neurons ought to be -- then this is the volume to get.

I have a huge library of C.S. Lewis's work -- just about everything and I bought this to flesh out my collection since it contained some essays I didn't have. When I got it I took one look and now it is the first volume I take down when I'm looking for something. The essays are nicely arranged by overall topic -- just the sixteen essays collected as part 6: The Art of Writing and the Gifts of Writers -- are worth the price of admission. Even some of Lewis's fiction is included. The fragment "The Dark Tower" for example -- it's authenticity has been questioned -- read it and decide for yourself. First though I think you should read "Voyage to Arcturus" which taught Lewis what planets are good for. Then when you read the Dark Tower you can meaningfully ask the question "Is this a plausible result given Lewis's expressed views of VTA?" As an exercise in overlap I looked at God In The Dock and so far have found all but two of the essays there (48 of them) are included in the 135 here -- the two missing as far as I can tell are "Rejoinder to Dr. Pittenger" and "Is Progress Possible?" -- so that's an example. If you're just starting out reading Lewis's Essays then this is the book to get.

I simply love this collection. If you don't buy this one you can get most of the essays by buying about five other volumes.

My Most Prized Book

I'm still hyperventilating over the out-of-print price I paid for this, but this is a great, great get. Another reviewer has elsewhere pointed out that the most efficient way to grab up Lewis's essays is to get these:

Essay Collection and Other Short Pieces
Selected Literary Essays
Studies in Medieval and Renaissance Literature

Unfortunately the top two are out of print. But if you can swing the dough, you will have very nearly every essay published by Lewis, and I believe only a single essay is repeated between the three collections. (I could be wrong, but the number of repeats is tiny. I don't have SLE in front of me to check the math.) To me, they are well worth it.

If you have worked your way through the staples (ha! no pun intended!) of Lewis's canon and want to branch out, this is a gold mine for you. This one, the other two mentioned, and the third volume of his collected letters would be an even better set.

interesting reading. i tried the exercises and have been using them daily and have not noticed any changes or differences in my mood. can't tell if it has any positive effect of not. seems like doesn't help and it doesn't hurt.

This Book really makes you take a good look at yourself

For everyone out there that spreads any kind of negativity about Scientology or L. Ron Hubbard obviously has not even taken the time to read ANY of his books. Self Analysis makes the reader take a real good look at themselves and discover what things are holding them back from reaching their full potential. This book is absolutely wonderful, I would recommend everyone to read it and give it a chance.

Note to anyone that has heard any negativity about Scientology. I highly urge those of you that have any negative thoughts about Scientology to do the following: Read Dianetics, Self Analysis, The Fundamentals of Thought and What is Scientology?. Just because a group of people said that Scientology is a cult and all they are after is your money; doesn't mean it is true. You can say that about any religion, but it does not make it true. Do not believe all the negativity that the media has put out there about Scientology and Scientologists. Scientology is all about helping others, and making the world around us a better place to live.
