About the Author
DENNIS COX is CEO of Risk Reward Limited, a Strategy and Risk Consultancy for the financial services industry, as well as being a director of a number of other companies. He was formerly Director, Risk Management at HSBC Operational Risk Consultancy and Global Risk Director at Prudential Portfolio Managers Limited, having spent 12 years in practice with Arthur Young and BDO Binder Hamlyn. Among a range of external interests he is a senior Council member of the ICAEW, a member of the Professional Standards Board, Chairman of the Financial Planning Committee of the London Society and a member of the Money Laundering Committee; together with being the Chairman of the Risk Forum for the Securities and Investments Institute. He also represents the public interest in the regulation of the Institute of Actuaries for financial service matters.

MICHAEL COX has spent 25 years teaching quantitative methods to a wide variety of undergraduate students in departments ranging from agriculture, engineering, history, economics, business and medicine. For over 20 years he has taught both statistics and management science to MBA students.
During his career he has published some 50 referred papers in such diverse areas as statistical process control, total quality management, multidimensional scaling and the analytical hierarchy process. In addition Michael has co-authored two text books and developed a major piece of software.
Michael works in applicable mathematics, the solution of real world problems employing statistical and management science techniques. Most of this research has included computer applications.

One of the best books on the subject of wood spirits

I have been carving for nearly 20 years and one of my specialties is wood spirits. I rank this book as one of my favorites. Harold Enlow is an exceptional carver and well-known instructor. I credit this book with having given me my start. The book focuses on carving wood spirits in relief, with lots of illustrations and some good, honest, basic technique. I highly recommend it!

I can't imagine a clearer, more comprehensive or better organized treatment of this subject. This is a "must have" text for practicing engineering geologists and geotechnical engineers. It contains a wealth of information and many good case histories, and is far superior to anything else I've seen on this subject. I only wish it had been available earlier in my career.

Without question on of the most comprehensive texts about landslides to date. The text is full of practical and helpful case histories which are invaluable and set this book apart from the rest. Chapters on slope stability anaylses and dewatering alone are worth the price of admission. A must reference for all practicing geotechnical engineers.

The Authoritative Source for Landslides

Landslides in Practice is an outstanding technical publication aimed at geotechnical engineers and geologists. I am very impressed with the format, layout and technical content. The book is well divided into three sections, with useful case histories in the third section. All figures are well presented and easy to follow. I am also impressed with the opportunity to estimate "ballpark" costs for various mitigation techniques. This textbook may become the "bible" on landslide design and mitigation. I will definitely keep it as my main resource for landslide/slope stability assignments.

A Valuable Asset for Senior Executives and Chiefs of Staff - A Must Read!

In writing "Chief of Staff," Tyler Parris has filled an enormous hole that has existed in terms of practical information about the role of Chief of Staff in the business world. The book is a Must Read for any senior executive currently using a Chief of Staff, anyone who is considering creating such a role in their organization, and anyone working in this role. It is a very pragmatic and well written overview of the role and of the many permutations of the role that exist today;

I few years ago some clients of my consulting and coaching practice began asking for my help in optimizing their existing Chief of Staff roles. As I began to search for information about best practices, I learned that here was little useful that had been written about the Chief of Staff role in the business world. So, I took the anecdotal information that I had amassed and wrote a White Paper entitled "Chief of Staff - A Force Multiplier." In his preparation for writing this book, Mr. Parrish discovered my White Paper, read it and was gracious enough to interview me.

He has wisely taken his own personal experience serving as a Chief of Staff and supplemented that knowledge with deep research and scores of interviews. The resulting book is a comprehensive look at this often misunderstood role. The author examines the history of the role, the kinds of individuals who best fill the role, deliverables, best practices, and much more, Each chapter concludes with a short workbook section to prompt personal reflection and growth.

Where else can you get such great experience from the mouth's of Chiefs of Staff across diverse industries, advice for deciding if you need one (you probably do if you are thinking you might) and how to manage a CoS once you do hire them than this book! Really makes a stellar business book in a space that is so overlooked for such a critical role in a company. CoS are exceptionally talented and vital members of the C team.

interesting book ,practical topics

Recieved in a good condition, useful topics, needed textbook for probability course.Comprehensive in "Analytical models of random phenomena" and "function of random variables" topics, includes Matlab codes for Monte carlo sampling(easy codes).
One chapter for "regression and correlation analysis" which is easy to understand.

The book is very good in providing an introductory explanation on issues related to probability concepts and reliability based design used in everyday jobs.

Even if it is introductory, it is sufficient for regular structural and geotecnical engineering tasks.

The Matlab codes are also very useful.
