About the Author
Jim McGuinness is an Irish sports coach and manager. His four-year period at the helm of the Donegal senior team, a county with which he won an All-Ireland medal as a player in 1992, ranks as one of the most successful in the sport s recent history. He currently occupies the position of Performance Consultant with Celtic FC. He lives with his wife, Yvonne, and five children, Toni-Marie, Mark Anthony, Jimmy, Bonnie and Aoibh, in Glenties, Co. Donegal.
Keith Duggan is from Donegal and has been twice awarded Sports Journalist of the Year. He is currently Chief Sports Writer with The Irish Times. Previous books include The Lifelong Season and House of Pain.

Jimmy's winning matches

The title, "Until Victory Always" comes from Che Guevara's well known saying "�Hasta la victoria siempre!" and that will tell you everything you need to know about the underlying narrative of this book. This the story of the mastermind behind a revolution; unquestionably beloved and revered by his people, feared and reviled by the establishment. It is also, of course, a nod to the image of Jim McGuinness in the style of the iconic portrait of Guevera that was so popular during his time as manager of Donegal.
The book is very well written, interjecting the main narrative of the 2011-2014 football seasons with Jim's own personal story and all told with a Donegal lilt and turn of phrase that bring the pages to life. It is an emotional journey, ranging from funny and sentimental to tragic and inspiring. Jim comes across as an incredibly driven-man who makes no apology for doing what he believed needed to be done. As with any tale there's more than one side to the story and sometimes the reasoning behind certain decisions seems contradictory but in a way that only adds to the honesty of the book. Bending the truth to wrap everything up in a tidy bow would not have made a more satisfying memoir.
I followed the Donegal team as closely as I could during those years and even travelled to Ireland to attend the All-Ireland Football Final in 2014. Reading this book now gives me even more respect and admiration for what Jim and his team achieved and how they did it. I can only hope there's more to come.

Excellent read, detailing the determination and passion of Jim McGuinness in his drive to resurrect the fortunes of Donegal football. Extremely moving and poignant at times, McGuiness innate honesty & decency shine throughout this book. In addition he makes no apologies for his absolute ruthlessness in dealing with obstacles that were in the way of his ultimate goal. Highly recommended for lovers of sports biographies.

An amazing insight into the journey of Donegal team under Jim's leadership. Well written with honesty and shows the depth of character of this man who has seen his share of personal tragedy. Proud to say he is from my neighboring town! Total respect to him for his commitment to our team and for sharing his inspirational story. Thank you Jim Mc Guinness!
