My goodness! After reading this book, I want to MEET and just spend time following Patty McGee around. I wish I grew up getting writing feedback like this- I can only imagine the difference it would have had on my writing identity and confidence. This book reads like a conversation with a mentor. Patty provides information, insights, and ideas in a clear and accessible way. She follows up by including language, students work, and charts to make us, as teachers, see how this will look and play out in our classrooms. This book every teacher needs on their shelf!

I can't wait to use this book! Not only with my writers, but also when working with my readers! It is the book that every teacher needs on their shelf and every graduate student should read as they prepare for student teaching. As I refine my feedback techniques in attempt to transform my writers, I can use this book for inspiration. I will also reference it for practical charts, strategies to model and writing habits to look for. I can't wait to teach the suggestions and practices in this book to my students as they peer conference and have author talks. Patty's tone and voice is not overwhelming. I feel like I can immediately try out various parts of this book, taking small steps to improving my writing instruction.

I bought this for my Kindle Fire. The poems are all intermingled in English and German. NOT parallel.... Few sentences in English then all German, then back in English.... Amazon Digital Services should have much better quality control then this. Very frustrating.....

There is no perfect Rilke

I think Rilke is not translatable. I know he is often translated, and I do read him in english. I am not a fluent German speaker by any means, but I can scan the texts in German and see enough to know the translations are never exact. I think his style is just near impossible to put through. Word choice, subject matter, tone, all of it. So if reading him in English, I find having multiple versions of each poem is helpful to compare. These translations are good. Particularly, I found the Dueno Elegies to be exquisite. Very powerful and moving. The shorter poems I am not as floored by. I have not read Sonnets to Orpheus before so I cannot say how well they are translated. But they left me rather cold here. But the texts are there too in the German, which helps and for price, this book offers you a lot more poetry than most of the Rilkes out there. My favorite translations of Rilke have come from Robert Bly in poetry collections, such as Rag and Bone Shop of the Heart. But I am happy with this purchase. Small and compact, this is the one to go with for now if you are buying new and these translations certainly attempt to remain Rilke, which can not be said of all the versions out there.

My German is average but I find the English translation melodious and less somber. At first I felt that it may have de-lighted the gravitas of Rilke's poems, which is one of their endearing qualities, but I found that the lighter sounds in fact illuminate Rilke's denseness and obscurity. Excellent.

Great reference for the smaller Yamaha enduros! This the the Latest Revision! (2003)

I picked this up to use for my 2002 XT225. I was concerned with some of the other versions I saw for sale around, which showed up to year 2000 (since my was 2002). probably no big deal, but I ordered this one since the seller stated that it is the "latest version"... and it was... 2003!

If you are going to buy one new, you might well buy the one that goes to 2003, right? Probably more importantly than the actual years listed, are the publisher revisions. Unfortunately, the publisher doesn't use traditional revision methodology, so to ID the latest version, you are looking for the one that is Copyrighted 2013 or search for ISBN 1620920654

Good for some purposes

I had hoped for a text on plant and animal biomechanics which would be a bit more engineering-focused than the old book of Wainwright et al. (Mechanical design in organisms) or the Vogel and Alexander books. Ennos' book spends most of the time summarizing polymer properties and basic mechanics of solids with some biological examples. The mathematics is quite elementary. Plants predominate, which makes sense given Ennos' background.

As a text for a mechanics course for biologists, this could work. If you want a biomechanics text for engineers, to follow an introductory materials course and a mechanics course, this is not it.

As a monograph on mechanics of biological materials, Wainwright et al. may still be best. I have still not found a human biomechanics book that I really like.
