About the Author
Lawrence Noyes took his first Enlightenment Intensive in 1976, trained extensively with founder Charles Berner until 1986, and has given his own seminars internationally for the past twenty years.

A great book about self-discovery

Although the words ‘enlightenment’ and ‘self-realization’ can be overplayed in some circles, this book about a three-day process deserves a close look by the world at large. No belief system is taught. No experience is necessary. In short, the Enlightenment Intensive is an astonishing way to do inner work, and it is explained in full here.
Anyone interested in real self-discovery could benefit from reading this material. Noyes details how Enlightenment Intensives are run and offers participants’ stories in their own words. He includes photos to add visuals of people in the contemplation and communication process. They give a reader a good idea of the challenging inner work done by participants on an Enlightenment Intensive.
Having attended several of these three-day weekend retreats with people from all walks of life, I find the method on the forefront of personal development today. I don’t say that lightly. This book demonstrates how energy toward the actual truth can be created through a real intention to ask. Many are aware of the power of asking and being open to truth, but the Enlightenment Intensive technique works with great efficiency. This is a clear and insightful book about this process.

Invaluable - a breath of fresh air!

Lawrence Noyes’ “The Enlightenment Intensive” is a finely written introduction to the relatively little known self-realization technique that was made to order for the 20th and 21st centuries. The book not only presents the origins and method of the Enlightenment Intensive without hawking them as “the” way to enlightenment, but it includes an astute commentary on the nature of enlightenment itself, based not on conjecture but clearly apparent firsthand knowledge. In addition to Noyes’ own personal experience of the subject, he includes an entire chapter of personal accounts of enlightenment experiences from participants that dispels the common misconception of enlightenment as a one time, all pervading experience that instantly transforms a person into a Buddha or a saint. Not that enlightenment can’t or doesn’t do that, but the experiences related here and the text of the book overall presents a much more realistic account of this Holy Grail of mystical experience.
Having taken a number of Intensives since 1973, one of the things I most appreciate about the book is its practical use for those who take Intensives regularly: notably the chapters on What to Do After an Enlightenment Intensive; When All Else Fails…Express the Truth; and Communication in the Dyads - How and Why it Works. The book is certainly an excellent introduction for anyone who is interested in taking an Intensive for the first time, but it is also invaluable for repeat offenders!
I am giving it five stars because I think Enlightenment Intensives are the best thing I’ve ever done in my life (I am 71), and because Noyes is no pretender who prattles on about abstruse spiritual or philosophical conjectures. This is a refreshing, no-nonsense presentation of an age old human reality that is all too often idealized and never experienced.

The Enlightenment Intensive, chronicles and describes a self-inquiry process that I've come to know and love, and that has changed my life in a deeply profound way. I am free from being a prisoner of my thoughts because of this process. My capacity to know my authentic self and feel love and compassion from a place I never thought possible is as a direct result of this process.
